Lately I feel like there's so much schoolwork to do that I can't even schedule a time to sit down w/ a friend to get food and talk anymore; i'm just constantly freaking out about the time that's passing that could be used for studying. But then i remember all the times i accidentally set my alarm clock to PM instead of AM and thus wake up at noon. And i remember all the times i miss class because i told myself "i'll sleep for another 10 minutes" and end up missing the entire class. And then i remember all those other people who are balancing way more shit than i am. And i realize i needa step up my game.
Life's good in the end. There are ups and downs, but after having some time to digest things, i realize again that i have it really good.
This weekend was pretty dope. After a tiring shift at work, i drove home from SD at around 1:30AM. The next day, met up w/ mizzle, and we hotboxed and ate matcha green tea shaved ice from Class302 (restaurant in Rowland Heights that is set up like a classroom). Let me tell you about this dish...instead of ground up ice, the ice is shaved into tissue-thin slices, so the texture when you bite into it is fluffier than ice cream, and the ice itself is frozen matcha green tea. Then it's drizzled w/ condensed milk and red beans and topped w/ warm mochis or rice ball things. Basically, it's the best thing you could eat on a sunny hot day after you've hotboxed. Quote of the day: "This should win a culinary award" (from baked mizzle). I had so much fun; group dynamics is such an important thing when there are substances involved, and i've learned that i always have fun when i smoke out w/ certain people. Then we couldn't resist, and we ordered more; i got rhou zhou fan (ground up pork stew over rice) and mizzle got pork/shrimp wonton soup...mmmm.
After Class302, mizzle and i headed for PSST's 10th annual PCN, and on the way, we were worried that we'd be late and let april and ramy down by not getting the willcall tickets on time. Then the discussion evolved into us listening to Afroman - "Because I Got High" and laughing our asses off about how true the song could be. But WOW...PSST is such an amazing high school club, and i'm so proud to be an alumni. The programmes were so carefully done, taking into account different aspects of font spacing and an overall unifying "look", and the cultural dances and hip hop were so intricate and clean. PSST definitely brings some college-level performances to the table and even surpasses some college PCNs i've seen. Check out their hip hop: keep in mind, all the choreography and staging/blocking was done by PSST members (no outside help), and all performers are high school students, with only a few who have previous hip hop experience:
Big ups to the coords!
Then on Mothers' Day, my mom and i ate at Boiling Crab in Arcadia and then took Cue pics and got shaved ice in Rowland Heights. I LOVE MY MOM. and my dad too of course.
I LOVE BEING HOME IN THE HEIGHTS. On the last note, i'd like to say that i'm very lucky to have the Cristal Fam; yall love me and have my back no matter what i do, and i couldn't thank you guys more.
